South Suburban wins consolation game over Morton

Danville, IL- Game 10 of the NJCAA DII Men's Basketball National Tournament featured a consolation match-up between South Suburban College and Morton College. South Suburban dropped their first round game vs. #1 ranked Columbus State Community College. Morton lost their first round match-up to Lincoln College. The winner of this game will play Bismarck State for a chance to finish 7th or 8th place in the tournament.
South Suburban jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, forcing Morton Head Coach Frank Lollino Jr. to call a timeout. Morton was not able to score for the first 4 minutes, but found their groove after that. Morton took advantage of South Suburban turnovers by getting easy transition points and taking the 11-9 lead. South Suburban Head Coach John Pignatti quickly called a timeout, but his team still struggled for the next several minutes. Eventually DeAngelo McIntosh stepped up for South Suburban making some athletic plays to help his team get up 22-16 with 7 minutes remaining in the half. They were able to expand the lead throughout the next several minutes to 6 points. Morton battled back with a short stint, but DeAngelo McIntosh and his 14 first half points kept South Suburban up 37-27 at halftime.

Morton came out in the second half in a zone, trying to trap everything in the corners. South Suburban struggled to handle the pressure at first, allowing Morton to crawl within 4 points. DeAngelo McIntosh continued to play well and helped his team build the lead back up to 8 with 12 minutes to play. Morton hit 1 free throw, but after that South Suburban went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 16 points within the next 4 minutes. The remainder of the game remained uneventful as South Suburban pulled away for a comfortable victory. Final score: South Suburban 71, Morton, 55.
